Careful What You Wish For

I fear the unknown, which is a hard thing to be afraid of because so much of my life is spent trying to navigate it.

Not knowing is hard.

Not knowing where my next dollar will come from. Not knowing what tomorrow will bring. The irony in it is that the unknown could be good or bad, it’s always 50/50.

We all obviously still wish for the good, but what if the good isn’t as great as you thought it would be. No matter how hard you try you can’t predict the future. No one can. Tables turn very quickly, and there is always a catch. I know that I can’t prevent bad things from happening, but at least I can try and make sure I’m not looking back one day regretting it all.

Life is complicated because, for the most part, everyone wants what they can’t have. That’s how it works right? Everyone’s in it for the chase and then as soon as they catch it, it’s on to the next. The thing is, what do you do if you never catch it? That’s honestly one of my biggest fears, failure.

But do you know what’s even scarier than failing? Getting what you wished for but not what you wanted. Succeeding just to realize that everything you’ve ever hoped for isn’t at all what you expected. And you’ll never know until it’s staring you in the face.

Where you are matters just as much as where you are not. So I tread carefully. There’s really no other way around it. It’s all a mindset thing. Everyone constantly goes through life wanting more.

More money, more clothes, more everything 24/7.

We live in a society of unlimited wants and we have literally managed to turn every occasion into an excuse to want more.

But what happens if it’s never enough? Now, I’m not talking about birthday wishes and the goals that you set for yourself. Of course, I make a wish on my birthday and I have dreams & aspirations. The wishes that I’m talking about are the ones we make without even knowing it. The voice inside of our head that’s telling us there’s a “cure-all” solution to life.

Those still images of your future that you have in your mind, that’s what you have to be careful of. Those wishes come in the form of money without happiness, fame without fortune, and success without satisfaction.

So stop and smell the roses every once in a while. Appreciate the things you have before they’re gone.

The devil doesn’t come dressed in a red cape and pointy horns. He comes as everything you’ve ever wished for.

Be careful what you wish for.
